EWI KEY BENEFITS

MINIMAL DISRUPTION

EWI is applied from the outside, so does not disrupt the day-to-day activities of occupants inside. EWI not only reduces heat loss but also acts as an effective sound barrier. It can significantly reduce noise pollution from outside sources, such as traffic or neighbours, creating a quieter and more peaceful indoor environment. This is particularly beneficial for properties located near busy roads or in densely populated areas.

ENHANCED ENERGY EFFICIENCY

One of the primary benefits is its ability to improve a building’s energy efficiency. External walls are the largest area of heat loss in a typical domestic property. By creating a thermal barrier on the exterior walls, it reduces heat loss and minimises thermal bridging. It wraps the external wall envelope in an insulating layer, helping to eliminate thermal bridges at corners. This leads to a more consistent and comfortable indoor temperature, reducing the need to use energy for heating and cooling.

MONOCOUCHE

A monocouche or ‘scratch render’ is a polymer modified, decorative, through-coloured render system.

Fiber glass mesh can be incorporated between coats to give the render a extra layer of protection against cracks on stress points around windows and doors.

Monocouche renders are also breathable, allowing any water vapour to escape through the render and your exterior walls to breathe.

A coloured, flexible thin coat render, developed using high performance silicone technology. Ensuring the finish is highly water repellent, highly vapour permeable and extremely flexible.

Applied in 3 stages which are combined to give you the highest performance in render systems against cracking and weather durability.

LIME RENDER

Natural Hydraulic Lime (NHL) render is a breathable, flexible finish that comes in a beautiful range of colours. It’s traditionally sponge-finished, but can also be applied in styles like roughcast, trowel, or scratch finish, depending on the desired look.

Lime render can be applied to most stable masonry surfaces, including brick, stone, blockwork, and concrete.

Often chosen for its traditional appearance, lime render is ideal for heritage projects or where planning regulations apply - such as in Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

FAQs

  • External building surface rendering is the process of applying a protective and decorative layer onto the exterior walls of a building. This layer, typically made of materials like cement, lime, or acrylic, serves to enhance the aesthetics of the building while providing protection against weather elements.

  • External rendering offers numerous benefits, including protection against weather damage such as rain, wind, and UV radiation. It also improves the thermal and acoustic insulation properties of the building, leading to increased energy efficiency and comfort. Additionally, rendering enhances the visual appeal of the property by providing a smooth and uniform finish that can be customized to suit individual preferences.

  • The lifespan of external rendering can vary depending on factors such as the quality of materials used, the application technique, and environmental conditions. Generally, well-maintained rendering can last for many years, with some high-quality products offering durability for up to several decades.

  • External rendering can be applied to most types of buildings, including residential homes, commercial properties, and industrial structures. It is suitable for various construction materials such as brick, concrete, and timber, making it a versatile option for both new constructions and renovation projects.

  • The cost of external rendering can vary depending on factors such as the size of the building, the chosen materials, and any additional preparatory work required. However, considering its benefits in terms of protection, insulation, and aesthetics, external rendering is often considered a worthwhile investment that can enhance the value and longevity of your property.
